Reset

When thinking about a reset in computer terms, it means to restore a system to zero by cleaning the contents of a register for example. It’s a standard strategy to solve problems when the device has slowed down or whenever there is a problem.

It leaves the system intact while cleaning the here-and-now state of the device, allowing it to start refreshed. Saved information will remain available.

In a performance-driven environment, the switch from one year to the other often also means, that the performance counter will be reset to zero. This type of reset means, that the past performance is erased and the person has to regain her status in the organization.

The organization displays in such a situation that result are given priority over the way they are gained. It’s up to the person to know what is “left intact” and what has been learned that will drive future performance.
