Adding control mechanisms

When leading teams a natural ambition is the achieve the planned results.

The success of this approach depends on how leaders see results. Is it something they are attached to and need to reach like a status symbol? Is it something that serves them on their journey to create the change they seek to make?

If it’s the first, the anxiety that it might not be reached will appear and influence the journey. It becomes an invitation to add control to the process in an idea that it will make the result more probable. Chances are, that control will be experienced as a lack of trust by the team.

In the later, there is a chance, that curiosity is taking the lead. It’s there to learn to know how everyone is contributing to the journey. It serves to stay informed and to be able to adjust the path whenever necessary.
